My motivational
statement is not what you might expect. The site is filled
with those subjects and people that motivate me. My real
and intense curiosity on the subject of motivational statements
and motivation in general is not how to write one, but where do we
find the motivation to do anything?
How do we get it, when every day the news
of the world is more oppressive towards our ability to live
peacefully and productively. Today, America is
different. Some say that it better and some will tell you
the opposite. It's both. It's both because over the
past few decades, Americans have become complacent in their
citizenship. Now, that's not the case and we see the
natural polarity of participation which is as beautiful and
terrifying as a lightning strike.
I won't tell
you that I know how to motivate people. I don't. I don't
believe that you can motivate people. I do believe and
know, however, how to create an atmosphere where those basic
tribal, primate needs can flourish. Using Maslow's
hierarchy of needs, I believe that you can create a space either
within your personal life or your work life that allows
motivation, the by-product of active creativity, to exist.
You must be committed to the prospect though. Ironically,
you must be motivated.
Webster's
Dictionary sites the word, incentive as a synonym for
motivation. Incentive, comes from the Latin, incentivum,
from the neuter of incentivus stimulating, from
Latin, setting the tune, from incentus, past participle
of incinere to set the tune, from in- + canere to
sing. To sing.
Therefore, I
believe, that motivation, the impetus of creating, is dependent
on the simplistic, yet intrinsic human ideal of finding your own
voice and singing your own song. The key to
motivation then is simply being who you are, who you've always
been and either metaphorically or literally, strike lightning
and sing the song of your soul for all to hear.
